Meetings, public hearings set to decide Rocky Fork Middle zone lines

MURFREESBORO — Rutherford County Schools will open its next school, Rocky Fork Middle School, in less than a year — August 2017. The much-needed middle school in Smyrna will help relieve overcrowding at Rocks Springs Middle School, Smyrna Middle School and Stewarts Creek Middle School.

The Rutherford County Board of Education has several upcoming meetings and public hearings scheduled to begin discussing the attendance zone for the new school. Parents are invited to attend these meetings and give feedback to the Board. 

The following meetings and public hearings are scheduled to discuss zoning options for the new school (Note: Board meetings are televised and available to watch online or Comcast Channel 19. Public hearings, however, are held at the schools and are not able to be televised):

  • Sept. 26: Special Called Board meeting, 5:30 p.m., Rocky Fork Middle School zone lines, Location: Board of Education (Televised / Live Stream)
     
  • Sept. 28: Public hearing, 6:30 p.m., Rocky Fork Middle School zone lines, Location: Rock Springs Middle School
     
  • Oct. 25: Public hearing, 6:30 p.m., Rocky Fork Middle School zone lines, Location: Smyrna Middle School 
     
  • Oct. 27: Public hearing, 6:30 p.m., Rocky Fork Middle School zone lines, Location: Stewarts Creek Middle School
     
  • Nov. 10: Special Called Board meeting, 5:30 p.m., Rocky Fork Middle School zone lines, Location: Board of Education (Televised / Live Stream)
     
  • Dec. 1: Special Called Board meeting, 5:30 p.m., Rocky Fork Middle School zone lines, Location: Board of Education (Televised / Live Stream)
