State Fair offering field trip days for local schools in September

Tennessee Farm Bureau and the Tennessee State Fair are excited to present the 2016 educational Field Trip Days. Field Trip Days are Monday, Sept. 12, for elementary students and Tuesday, Sept. 13 for high school students.

Both days are free to all students and run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students are able to experience hands-on STEM activities while enjoying Tennessee’s Largest Outdoor Classroom. Teachers can stop by the Show Arena for complimentary educational resources for each registered school group to supplement science, math, language arts, social studies and nutrition curriculum.

Teachers will be sent lesson plans/activities and commodity information to go along with the educational features of the fair so they can supplement their classroom instruction with lessons from the fair to meet curriculum standards.

Rutherford teachers participate in Summer Institute at MTSU

Middle School Coordinator Barbara Powers would like to recognize the following teachers:

This past June, elementary and middle level teachers from Rutherford County Schools attended the Summer Institute Project Impact at MTSU.  The project is focused on best practices for math instruction including digging into both the student standards for mathematical practice and the NCTM teaching practices.

During this training, teachers engaged in challenging math tasks and games as learners, as well as discussions over published articles regarding math instruction.During demo lessons, teachers watched actual students engage in high-level tasks, provided feedback on the lesson, and viewed lesson improvements in action.
