Dr. Diana Brown will be the next principal of Daniel-McKee Alternative School, Director of Schools Don Odom announced today.

Brown succeeds Principal Mary Jo Yeager, who has announced her retirement.

“Dr. Brown brings a wealth of experience for students that includes administrative leadership, high school graduation coach, school counselor, and a Program Manager at the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center,” Director Odom said. “She understands both the importance and challenges of educational attainment for students and will bring those skills to her leadership position.”

Brown currently serves as the assistant principal at Smyrna West Alternative School. Both Smyrna West and Daniel-McKee offer programs for students in grades 6-12 who need behavior interventions before returning to their zoned schools.

“I’d like to thank Mr. Odom for the opportunity to return to the Daniel-McKee family in a leadership capacity,” Brown said. “I’m excited to continue the progress Ms. Yeager and her team have made in meeting the individual needs of the Daniel-McKee students.”

Brown previously served as a guidance counselor at Daniel-McKee for 13 years. She left the school to become the graduation coach at Oakland High School in 2006 before transferring to Stewarts Creek High School when it opened in 2013. She later was named the assistant principal at Smyrna West.

Prior to her career with Rutherford County Schools, Brown worked for the Department of Children’s Services and the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center in Smyrna with students with disabilities.
