Two students to compete in international bridge building contest in May in Las Vegas
Rutherford County Schools
Blackman High School students in Gayle Dawson's honors geometry class and those in Nicole Harvey’s honors physics class competed in March at the Oak Ridge Museum of Science and Engineering for the regional bridge building contest.
Blackman was the first place school and also won the first seven individuals places before any other school entered the contest, Dawson said.
The first two ranked students, Morgan Holt and Jennica Williams, will be competing at the International Bridge Building Contest being held in May in Las Vegas. Last year’s International Contest had winners all the way from Indonesia.
The girls will have to build another bridge of balsawood with a special stain already on the wood for the international contest.
Supplies the Blackman students used for the bridge building contest were provided through a Business Education Partnership grant.
