Blackman Middle School sixth-grade annex opens
New addition at Smyrna Primary School also operational
MURFREESBORO - Blackman Middle School sixth-grader Hannah Graham was all smiles while she changed out books in her locker in the new sixth-grade annex building, which opened this week at the school.
"It's awesome," she said of the new building. "The lockers especially and we're away from the eighth-graders."
Students and teachers began using the new annex building Monday, Oct. 20. The project has been under construction for the more than a year and had a delayed opening because of severe weather last winter. The annex now houses the school's sixth-graders and provides some much needed overcrowding relief at the school, which boasts an enrollment of more than 1,200 students.
The new facility is one of two additions the school district opened this year. Smyrna Primary School also received an addition consisting of a new library, six classrooms, and a workroom among other amenities.
The Blackman Middle project cost $7.4 million to construct and equip. It includes the two story annex, which is comprised of 57,500 square feet, and a cafeteria renovation for additional seating and a serving line. The annex includes 25 classrooms, a gymnasium and an office area. CONTINUE READING
