Rigor and Relevance Learning Stations

Station 1:  Determining Rigor and Relevance 

This is a group activity.  Assign group member roles: 
   Computer Guru-Access Digital Resources and record your Team’s digital
    answers 

   Research Analyst- Use the extra links and tables provided to guide your Team
   There may be two. 
   Presentation Pro- Present information via the Recording feature  

   Process Observer-Carefully read all directions and guide your group 

   

 Complete both tasks.

Task 1:  What is the Level of Rigor? 

·         Go to  https://web.seesaw.me/ 

·         Select I’m A Student 

·         Log in by scanning the QR Code 

 

·         Once in SeeSaw, select the Activities Tab.

·          Find the Activity “ What is the level of Rigor?”

·         Read the directions for the activity.  They are also listed below.

·         Click on the Add button.

·         Select your group number. 

 

Activity Directions

 

·        Use the resources in your packet to assist you.

·        Determine the level of thinking that each activity requires.

·         To begin the activity, tap the label tool and move the labels into the correct areas.  

·         Presentation Pro- Use the Record tool to reflect on your learning? What difficulties did your group have completing the task? Takeaways from the activity? 

·          Tap the green check mark to post to your journal.  

 

 

Task 2:   How Relevant Is It? 

 

  • Once in SeeSaw 
  • Select the Activities Tab
  • Find the Activity “ How Relevant Is It?”
  • Read the directions for the activity.  They are also listed below.
  • Click on the Add button.
  • Select your group number. 

 

Activity Directions

  • Determine the relevancy of each activity.  
  • Click on the Label Tool to drag the corresponding Relevancy ranking number into the chart.  
  • Presentation Pro- Reflect: How difficult was this for your group?  What is your main takeaway from this activity? Did your group have any debates over the ranking levels? 
  • Tap the green check mark to post to your journal. 

 

 

Station 2:  Rigor and Relevance in the Social Studies Standards

In this activity you will work with your group to determine the highest thinking level required to meet the Social Studies Practices for one of the four grade bands.  Use the resources on your table to assist you.

Task 1:   Rigor in the New Social   Studies Standards 

·         Use the resources at your table to identify the highest level of thinking required to meet each of the Social Studies Practices.

·         Once your group has discussed your answers, log into   Seesaw to record your answers.

·         Go to  https://web.seesaw.me/ 

·         Select I’m A Student 

·         Log in by scanning the QR Code 

 

·         Once in SeeSaw, select the Activities Tab.

·          Find the Activity “ Rigor in  Our Social Studies Standards?”

·         Read the directions for the activity.  They are also listed below.

·         Click on the Add button.

·         Select your group number. 

Activity Directions

·        Click on the Label Tool and place the appropriate SSP beside the highest level of rigor written into the Social Studies Practices.

·        Reflect using the record tool. Are you surprised? Do you feel that we are currently teaching the standard to this level or beyond? Which thinking level(s) are not well represented? Why do you think this is the case? Could we push students to this level? How?

·         Tap the green check mark to post to your journal. 

Task 2:  Relevancy in Social Studies? 

 

·         Look for any relevancy written directly into the standards.  What did you find?  Are there other ways to add relevancy into the Social Studies curriculum?

·          In Seesaw, select the Journal Tab and then your group. 

·         Click on the Note button to post your group’s thoughts to the journal.

·         Tap the green check mark to post to your journal. 

 

Station 3:  High Impact Instructional Strategy Review 

This is an independent activity to be completed by each student.  You will complete both tasks.

Task 1: High Impact Strategies 

·         Choose at least two high impact instructional strategies from the Choice Board to learn more about how to go from OLD School to Bold School.  Explore the articles and watch the videos.
