Summer Learning Camp

Rutherford County Schools will offer summer camps for rising 1st-8th grade students at ten schools across the district. This is a fun, free opportunity for students to extend their learning during June. Summer camp will take place June 5-29, Mondays-Thursday each week, for sixteen total days. Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily, and transportation will be offered. Space is limited, and parents will be notified by their school if their student has been accepted.

Please read the FAQ below for more details:

What will my child learn at summer camp?

Students will experience additional on-grade level instruction in Reading and Math.  They will participate in hands-on science activities involving technology and engineering.  Physical activity is also scheduled daily.  They will make new friends and meet others from different schools.

When is summer camp?

Summer camp will be Monday-Thursday each week from June 5-29.  Elementary students will attend from 7:30-1:30, with doors opening for breakfast at 7:15.  Middle school students will attend from 8:30-2:30, with doors opening for breakfast at 8:15.

Who should attend summer camp?

Parents will receive a letter if their student meets the priority criteria to attend camp.  Summer camp curriculum is on grade level for the grade that students just completed, and it helps bridge them to the next grade level.  Each school receives a number of student slots available for camp, and they target students based on student data.

When can I register for camp?

Summer camp registration will open February 20 for priority students.  Registration will open for all students on March 6, and the link will close March 24.

How do I register for camp?

Registration will be available in the Skyward Family Access portal beginning February 20.  There is one question at the bottom of the form to register for bus transportation for camp.

When will I know if my child is accepted?

Families will be informed of acceptance to summer camp beginning the week of April 10.  Because of limited space, families may receive a waitlist letter if all summer camp slots were filled.

Is bus transportation offered?

Bus transportation will be available to and from camp each day.  Families will sign up for bus transportation when they complete the summer camp registration form in Skyward.

What about breakfast and lunch?

Breakfast and lunch will be provided at camp daily free of charge.

What are the drop off and pick up times for summer camp?

Doors will be open at 7:15 for elementary sites and 8:15 for middle school sites. Dismissal for car riders will be 1:30 for elementary students and 2:30 for middle school students.

Will there be a nurse at summer camp?

Each summer camp site will have a nurse each day.

What is the attendance policy for summer camp?

Space at summer camp is limited, and each site will have waitlist once seats are all taken.  Third graders must have 90% attendance rate at summer camp if their attendance is required for promotion to fourth grade.

High School Summer School

Rutherford County Schools will offer summer school for current 9th - 12th grade students to earn new course credit.
