Updates and Reminders

Parents, we are looking forward to another successful school year. Here are a few reminders and updates for you:

TAX FREE WEEKEND BEGINS JULY 31

Tennessee's 2026 sales tax holiday on clothing, school supplies and computers begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 31 and ends at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2.

During this time, clothing, school supplies, and computers may be purchased tax-free. Certain restrictions apply. Items sold online are also eligible. Items must be purchased for personal use, not for business or trade.

What’s included?

  • General apparel priced $100 or less per item, such as shirts, pants, socks, shoes, dresses, etc.

  • School and art supplies priced $100 or less per item (binders, backpacks, crayons, paper, pencils, etc.) and art supplies (glazes, clay, paints, drawing pads, and artist paintbrushes).

  • Computers (laptops or tablets) for personal use with a purchase price of $1,500 or less.

  • Complete details: https://www.tn.gov/revenue/taxes/sales-and-use-tax/sales-tax-holiday/sth-traditional.html

The Rutherford County Schools has a core supply list available at https://www.rcschools.net/o/academics/page/core-school-supply-lists, but check your school's website for grade-specific lists and requests.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL AUG. 7

  • Aug. 7: Two-hour orientation and registration day

  • Aug. 10: First full day of school

WEAPONS DETECTION SYSTEM

Just as last year, all Rutherford County Schools will be secured using a weapons detection system that all students and visitors must pass through to enter school. We want to ensure parents know the system will be in use beginning with the first day of school on Aug. 7.

ENROLLMENT AND VERIFICATION UNDER WAY

We appreciate all the patience from parents as we have transitioned to our new student information system, Synergy. Registration and enrollment are still under way. Learn more at www.rcschools.net/enroll. If you need any assistance, please contact your school directly, but please be mindful that they are answering lots of parent calls and emails this time of year.
