David Youree Elementary School Nurse Kitty McClellan has been named Rutherford County Schools' Nurse of the Year.
McClellan started with Rutherford County Schools in 2016 as a substitute nurse. During her time with the district, she earned a master’s degree in nursing and became a nationally certified school nurse.
McClellan is known for her warm commitment to students and for collaborating to find useful resources for families and school staff.
“Nurse Kitty is an essential part of the positive culture at David Youree Elementary,” David Youree principal Brian Waggoner said. “She brightens every room with her positivity, demonstrates a true servant’s heart, and consistently goes above and beyond her assigned duties to help wherever she is needed. Her willingness to serve others and her commitment to supporting our students and staff make her a valued member of the DYE family!”
Colleagues describe McClellan as a compassionate advocate, trusted mentor and dedicated professional who consistently supports students, families and fellow nurses. Her leadership, innovation and commitment to service have made a lasting impact on the David Youree Elementary community and exemplify the vital role school nurses play in student success.
"Kitty is the light her students need," RCS coordinator of school nursing services Dr. Shanna Groom said. "She makes a difference in the lives of children every day through her compassion, advocacy and commitment to ensuring every student receives the care and support they deserve."
The RCS Nurse of the Year award is selected by nursing peers from across the district. To be eligible for nomination, candidates must be a nationally certified school nurse, have at least five years of service with Rutherford County Schools and cannot have received the award within the previous five years.
