Rutherford County Schools cut the ribbon on LaVergne High School’s three-story, 80,000-square foot addition Sunday afternoon.

Completed four months ahead of schedule, the expanded facility offers 27 new classrooms, lecture hall, a forensics lab for criminal justice students, labs for physics, chemistry and biology classes, as well as marketing and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

But the building means much more than walls and classrooms, said Principal Dr. Theowauna Hatchett, a LaVergne High graduate.

“Having sat in these classrooms myself, it makes it especially meaningful to me. I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to lead this school and help shape its future. It means more to me than I can adequately express,” Hatchett said.

She reminded students in attendance that the school belongs to them and encouraged them to take full advantage of the opportunities the expansion provides.

“An investment of this magnitude says your community believes in you,” Hatchett said.

The 80,000-square-foot, three-story expansion includes 27 new classrooms, dedicated career and technical education spaces, updated science labs and a new lecture hall.

Led by principal Dr. Theowauna Hatchett, LaVergne High serves approximately 1,800 students in grades 9-12. The school is located at 250 Wolverine Trail in La Vergne.
