Rutherford students design winning postcard submissions for Recycle Rutherford

November 1, 2017

Rutherford County Schools

For the first time in three years, Rutherford County Schools swept the awards for Recycle Rutherford’s annual postcard contest.

“Recycle Rutherford thanks RCS educators for taking the time to educate their students about taking care of our planet,” said Dr. Rachel L. Peay Cornett, Recycle Rutherford’s board president and an academic interventionist at Brown’s Chapel Elementary.

The winning designs will be featured in advertising collateral, newsletters and social media campaigns for Recycle Rutherford.

The postcard contest replaced the annual phonebook recycling contest which ended in 2014.

The annual postcard contest is open to all students in Rutherford County, including Murfreesboro schools, private schools, homeschooled students and those who attend Rutherford County Schools.

Winning students were awarded a $50 gift card and their teachers received a $100 check, while honorable mention students received a $25 gift card and their teachers received a $75 check.

The three categories included primary (K-2), elementary (3-5) and middle school (6-8).

Four other participating teachers – Tammy Cavanaugh (Rockvale Middle), Amanda Thompson (Blackman Elementary), Laura Schlesinger (Smyrna West) and Tabitha Herrin (Stewarts Creek Middle) – were selected in a random drawing and received a $50 check.
