Rockvale High School; Rocky Fork Elementary information

The Rutherford County Board of Education has approved new school zones for the 2019-2020 school year that will affect several high schools in Murfreesboro and Smyrna, and several elementary schools in Smyrna and LaVergne.

 

The new zones have been adopted to create zones for Rockvale High School and Rocky Fork Elementary School, both of which will open in August 2019.

The Board has approved the following grandfather option for high school students:

  1. Seniors will be grandfathered.
  2. Rising 10th grade through 12th grade students currently enrolled in the Blackman Collegiate Academy will be grandfathered.  
  3. Any student granted a zone exemption or grandfathered will be required to provide their own transportation.

When the rezoning takes place, must my student change high schools?

As part of the rezoning plan, the School Board has grandfathered rising seniors. All others must change to their new zoned school unless otherwise approved for a zone exemption. Zone exemptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis based on hardship and available space at the requested school. Zone exemption applications will be available Feb. 1, 2019 and the priority application deadline is April 15, 2019. 

 

Will state highway 99 be widened? Will the new road cutting through to the backside of the high school connect with 99?

 

Highway 99 will be widened and longer turning lanes will be installed. This will allow for more vehicle stacking. There will be an access road from the internal roadway system out to Thompson Road. However, there will not be a direct road from Highway 99 to Thompson Road.

 

Is there a drawing or image of what the new school will look like?

Rockvale High School will be very similar to the design used for Stewarts Creek High School.

Rock Fork Elementary School will be a two-story facility with features similar to the recently-opened John Colemon Elementary School.
