When Rockvale High School opens in August 2019, it will become the 11th high school for Rutherford County. Mr. Steve Luker, a veteran educator and administrator, has been named the principal. Luker currently serves as the principal of Smyrna Middle School, although a search for the school’s next principal is already under way.

everyone this is James Evans with Rutherford County schools and I'm here they with Keith Ryan Cartwright our communication specialist and the new principal of Rockdale High School you're listening to our podcast what is plans are and all the things that we can expect from this. School high school Butler County better educator and administrator and we all we need officially start until January what you doing start until January but there's so many things that are time sensitive that have to be done right now so really it like the day after or the day I started working for Rockville High School you work for Smyrna Middle School so I'm doing basically two jobs and I'm having a lot of fun I'm learning a lot and trying to put together some stages of force so if we're doing that that's what my day looks like. What kind of things were you guys discussing day for the new school it was a construction in southwell purchasing meeting and County Schools the resources here are amazing and work has been that long before I was hired the principal for purchasing computers the technology Furniture teacher dance Fountain every little which major Berkeley open a school cuz there's nothing there so that was a meeting today and then just an update on where the process for work river stage of the buildings are now disposition that attracted you wanted you want to apply originally was a high school football coach and I told High School a doctor when I got into Administration album split between the Middle School in elementary school elementary school principal for 7 years and then a middle school principal for four and the challenge it was stepping outside my car looking for something to build similar to where I was at Chapel Hill for 10 years I like that Community atmosphere I like wood stove community stand for you know they are a tight-knit group and they care about their schools I care about your kids this is Keith Ryan Cartwright so many little thing what's the first thing you wrote in your trailer IRS superintendent of Atlas Copco first thing lots of emails from people that are graduating people are already thinking I want to go be a part of something what's going to what's going to happen in Rockville what that process like I'm sure you have a secret page in the notebook and pencil you some names you're starting to what are you looking for and how to match up to the culture you're going to that mean you're going to your going to start you don't have to change a culture absolutely all schools no matter where or when or how you know you have to have good teachers like kids yet that teachers that are willing to more than just teach them in the school Community I'm looking for I'll take the team approach I believe in change and that's what I'm going to try to do is build an effective thing that starts with basketball athletic are fine arts Banda music and then all our classes and are academic yourself that's a good concerned about the unknown places in the air can you shed some light on what that process is like a planning also obviously when you lose students from one school at Riverdale on Black Ops 2 from other school of the rezoning is not just kids are going to Rockville there's a shifting students across across the county so obviously Blackman the county because it is going to come over crowd and then some of the other schools which teachers are placed or there's a formula for the number of students number teach you that you're allowed to have some interviews will be open to anyone in our family that has that starts with nation of horse people from outside that County so I think it will level itself off at some point the other question we get it is School offer both academically and end on the extra-curricular level you know they're they're comparing some of the programs that already exist in some of the other schools and is it do you expect offered how do you go about getting all that rolling catch up on a student school for year 2 years and they've chosen the pathway plan industry School industry and trade Pathways for those student offer very similar programs that are in the same Pathway to make adjustment a lot of that's going to come when we official come we start registering student a lot of students that are in recent make the healthcare Pathways make sure that we have adequate seats for those students at our school the outstanding is will have one of the first programs and not just the county or the state in the nation will eventually offered programmer simulator in our school will have teachers and instructors from outside our count it will come in in later than that works for us to get a job continue their career while they're still making money all schools offer County credit report types of classes on the 1st if you can leave high school with some college credit save some money for student you too is that you can try on some things during high school to see if it's something that you really Sue college and things like that so I can start going by there when they go there so that if you don't start out as an issue Hydro Massage & Skin this is Keith something I was going to bring up which is ultimately at the end of the traditional High School in our credit AP all that type of stuff some of the other programs that you'll have already know you're going to bring is that your offer right now in stone we have our RCT classes that we know for sure we're going to offer Lance manufacturing and Engineering which no other school in this county has that that program black top floor that kids can go out and get a job after high school or decide to go to college and get an engineering student interest that something that we need to offer that matches of the pathways of some of our students that are absolutely we would look at that try to death that for the student that's an interesting point you started to make right there would like machinist dead it is a it is and could be in for most people will probably be of some sort of but it could also be some while they're in school electrical engineering civil engineering whatever else you know all the CTE pathways and this is what I guess they ship require high-level math now you really have to have that conceptual knowledge of math how many people it's required for someone who decide to go out and construction company Force but also have those opportunities for students or traditional college degree assault that doesn't work for these students we need to provide multiple opportunities for every year and we've gotten pretty good at doing it since there's always some separation anxiety in wink wink create a new school zone in a year or two later you start seeing people that are begging to get into the new school and you know we get that a core self in a couple years some of the concerns with him. He was saying yeah I want to stay where we are and they're going to go away and announcements about new principal but the day that I thought you were going to what's needed to but you know how you not fish together once and you told me later that you had some trouble with your boat and you didn't take it to a shop on the business on that that was a process that took a while my outboard motor score two fists and it blew up for lack of better term I just decided that I did it myself and understanding actually be happening Advanced manufacturing top what does a rebuilt engine but the things which are now there's plenty of jobs out there for a job I have is a job for 4 years so I was proud of that certain level of where you saw those things you could leave so to speak and then your hands dirty when you need to to fix a problem and just figured out something be part of the front plate not people like to know that that they had a leader who's willing to do what they're asked to do pictures and custodians cafeteria 1st May 17th I'm always willing to try to find solutions to problems and we are trying to make our schools or at least two schools I know Student Center that's exactly what I'm going to do at Rockville also want to stay with leadership so whether it coaches military leaders or any other leaders people who have you tried to emulate or look at your bar and think I would be most like just one person my high school football coach was one of the best leaders he was also a flight for him and he was also School of the school and effective leaders and principal rice retired now in Chapel Hill Chapel who inspires me probably the most are probably my sister make me a better leader because they work hard they have every picture that hire just cuz I'm the principal doesn't mean I couldn't learn from an assistant principal don't have a mascot of course but this one has some historical significance can you tell me about the colors of the school important discussion mascot would be the rockets that was the tradition mascot of the school when they closed the high school and they made Rockville locate a lot of people didn't realize the students white and Raphael now they're coming back the rocket to have that history take that and I'll take that and what that stands for and try to build a phone that because that's Community Elementary School and Rockets at the high school that's the school colors for the Rockville High School or middle school actually that was the original colors and embrace that tradition and that's our colors to dye blue and white royal blue not not a dark Navy but just listen to beyond the classroom are podcast for Rutherford County School we're talking today to see blucher who is the new principal of Rockdale High School mr.
