This week, the Warriors of Riverdale faced off against the Raiders of Spring Hill during a special in-school match.

Our goal of the in-school match is to raise awareness of the sport to our student body,” Riverdale girls wrestling coach Dario Rudas said.

By hosting the event during school hours, more students were able to attend. The school also offered multiple ways for the students to earn the privledge to attend the event.

We are working to make this not only beneficial for wrestling, but we also hope to impact those suffering from food shortage in our efforts by allowing students to bring cans of food or other non-perishable items as an alternative way of paying for admission to the match,”
Rudas said.

Later Wednesday evening, wrestlers planned to take their matches outside for an annual “Fight on the Field.” However, due to weather concerns, the warriors faced the Gallatin Green Wave inside the Johnny Parsley Memorial gymnasium.

When it comes to wrestling, it is our staff's vision to bring something different to Middle Tennessee in order to promote the growth of the sport,” Rudas said.
