In this session, we will focus on Tennesseans who pushed the nation to live up to the ideals of equality written in our founding documents. From WWII veterans fighting to ensure voting rights in Fayette county to college students in the state who picked up the mantle of leadership in the civil rights movement, this workshop will explore how individuals in this state broadly impacted one of the greatest expansions of democratic rights in our nation’s history during the second half of the twentieth century. This workshop will align with social studies standards in the 5th grade as well as the high school U.S. history and elective courses such as Tennessee history and African American history. Free resources will be shared with all attending teachers. Lunch will be provided. Registration is FREE but required to attend. MSCS Teachers will receive credits in PLZ. Registration will open in early 2024.
