Homer Pittard Campus School, which opened in 1929, often uses the catchphrase, “Welcome to the Legacy.”

The name of Elizabeth “Liz” Whorley Bradley, a longtime educator and principal at the school, will now forever be a part of that legacy, thanks to the school’s sole roadway being named after her.

The Rutherford County Board of Education, at the request of the Friends of Campus School support group, has named the school’s driveway “Whorley Way” to honor the former principal, who served at the school from 1965-1985.

Bradley had an incredible impact on teaching and learning at Campus School during her tenure.

Dr. Rita King, president of Friends of Campus School, gave high praise to Bradley because of her commitment to and passion for the school.

The two served together at the school for nearly a decade.

“[Bradley] was an amazing, forward-looking leader,” King said. “She loved the school and helped it grow to a national spotlight.”

King recalled many times that Bradley would be out on the driveway directing traffic before and after school.

“It is very appropriate that this name change happens,” King said. “Mrs. Whorley is honored.”

Official signage will be unveiled by the school at a later date.

Bradley, who now lives in Texas, is the last living grandchild of the only Tennessee governor from Rutherford County, John Price Buchanan.
