Students of all grades spent the day showing off research and engineering projects, such as building libraries and creating egg cradles that were dropped from the school’s roof.
Smyrna Elementary was named as a STEM-designated by school by the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network and the Tennessee Department of Education in 2022. For its efforts, the school received $30,000 to fulfill additional STEM programming for students and professional development for faculty and staff members.
As part of the network, Smyrna Elementary serves as a model school for others working toward the designation. Educators from Cheatham, Maury and Wilson counties were escorted by students selected as house ambassadors.
