What courses should my student take in high school?

Rutherford County Schools

Eighth-grade students recently participated in a series of brain games through YouScience, an assessment used to identify students' interests and aptitudes.

Accessible through Clever, results are intended to help students and their families identify high school classes, post-high school graduation options and a wide variety of careers that best match a student’s talents and interests. RCS students have access to their test results and accounts for 10 years after high school graduation.

In the coming days, middle school students will participate in Pathway fairs hosted by the school district, Rutherford Works and the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce. These events were created to help students and parents make a more informed choice on which Career & Technical Education Pathway they plan to pursue during high school. Each student will pick four CTE subject areas available at their zoned school and attend a session for each of those areas with an instructor and industry partner.

Dates for the Pathway fairs are as follows:

Feb. 7: Oakland, Rockvale, Christiana, Blackman, Smyrna, LaVergne, Stewarts Creek Middle

Feb. 15: Siegel, Whitworth Buchanan, Eagleville, Rocky Fork, Thurman Francis Arts Academy

Rock Springs, Daniel McKee, Smyrna West

Parents are encouraged to discuss the experience with their children to help them decide about high school courses.
