Students entering the Yale Class of 2028 were asked to nominate outstanding educators who have profoundly impacted them.
Angel Hu was quick to nominate Central Magnet music teacher Margie Way-Kiani.
Hu was required to submit a 300-word essay describing the impact that Way-Kiani had on her.
In her essay Hu talked about the creative freedom that she was given in the classroom.
“It’s a huge honor,” Way-Kiani said. “Receiving some recognition makes me feel like what I’m doing is meaningful.”
The Yale Educator Recognition Program recognizes outstanding educators from around the world who support and inspire their students to perform at high levels and to achieve excellence.
Matriculating students were invited to nominate high school educators, and a committee of Yale admissions officers reviewed each nomination and individually selected recipients.
Way-Kiani received her award earlier this month.
