Meet Brandon Deal, RCS 6-8 Teacher of the Year

Who influenced you most to become an educator and what makes them special?

Deal: Social Studies is a great subject to teach.  There is so much variety in World History and many ways to make it fun and interesting.  The administration at Christiana is very supportive and encouraging.  It is an enjoyable place to work.

What do you enjoy about working with high school students, specifically at Christiana?

Deal: Social Studies is a great subject to teach.  There is so much variety in World History and many ways to make it fun and interesting.  The administration at Christiana is very supportive and encouraging.  It is an enjoyable place to work.

Name one thing you hope your students remember about you 10 years from now.

Deal: I hope they remember that during the often turbulent years of middle school, that my classroom was a place where they were valued, had some fun, and learned a lot.

What advice would you give a new college graduate entering their own classroom for the first time this fall?

Deal: I would advise them to get to know their students so that they can relate to them.  The greatest teachers are not those that know the most about their subject, but can make their subject “learn-able.”
