Siegel Middle School will celebrate the career of Mike Tobitt, the school's first and longtime baseball coach, by naming the field in his honor.
The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at the school, located at 355 W. Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro.
Hired in 2001, Tobitt built Siegel Middle's program from the ground up, serving head coach from 2002-2019 and again from 2021-2024.
With an outstanding varsity record of 364 wins and 98 losses, he guided his teams to seven conference championships, five conference tournament titles, and two TMSAA State sectional titles. Beyond the wins, coach Tobitt dedicated countless hours to shaping not only skilled athletes but also strong young men. His commitment extended beyond the dugout and helped establish top-tier baseball facilities that continue to benefit the program today.
A 1977 graduate of Franklin County High School, Tobitt was recognized as a member of the All-Century Baseball Team for his outstanding contributions to the sport. He continued his baseball career at Middle Tennessee State University, where he graduated in 1982 and was a key part of the 1981 OVC Championship Baseball team as a second baseman.
Coach Tobitt is married to Judge B. Jo Atwood and has one son, Wesley, who resides in Miami. All former players, parents, and community members are invited to attend the celebration.
