As the new 2025-2026 academic year approaches, Rutherford County Schools wants to help you get prepared and stay informed. Whether you're a student, parent, or staff member, this centralized hub is a go-to resource for everything you need to start the year strong.

Registration and verification open now: Parents with new students to Rutherford County Schools should complete online registration now to ensure a smooth first day for your student. If you have a returning student, you should complete the online verification process to validate your contact preferences, residence, transportation options, and additional vital information.

Both new student registration and existing student verification is completed online using Skyward. If you have trouble accessing your existing Skyward account, please contact your school directly for assistance.

Limited meal charges permitted; Free and Reduced Lunch application available now: Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, students will not be permitted meal charges if their outstanding balance reaches $60. A la carte items will also not be eligible for meal charges. If a student’s meal debt reaches $60, an alternative meal will be provided until the charges are resolved.

DON’T FORGET: If your family qualifies for the Federal Free or Reduced Lunch Program, please complete the online application HERE. One application covers all students in one family.

NEW POLICY ALERT -- No phones or headphones permitted during school day:

In accordance with a new state law, Rutherford County Schools has adopted a new policy that prohibits students from using cell phones during the regular school day. Students are permitted to possess cell phones but they must be put away at all times during the instructional day. Headphones will also not be permitted during the school day.

The full policy is available for parents HERE.

SCHOOL SECURITY -- Weapons Detection System coming to all schools: We are excited to announce a new feature to enhance safety and security at all Rutherford County schools for 2025-2026.

RCS will be deploying weapons detection systems at all schools beginning in September. These units are similar to what you experience when visiting sports stadiums or concert venues. Students and visitors will simply pass through these screeners each day while trained staff will monitor for potential weapons.

The scanning units are being delivered and school personnel will be trained during August. The new procedures will then go into effect in September.

As we approach the launch date, parents will receive additional details, but we are proud to be the first school district in Tennessee to provide this enhanced level of security for all our schools.

Save the dates: 2025-2026 academic calendars: The first day of school (2-hour day) is Wednesday, Aug. 6. The first full day of class is Friday, Aug. 8. Click here to access calendars in English, Spanish and Arabic
