Rutherford County Schools’ fleet of Career & Technical Education Mobile Learning Labs have officially hit the road with Eagleville School as the first stop.

The first of their kind in Tennessee, the three labs offer insight into the following areas: Healthcare and STEM, Advanced Manufacturing and Career Exploration, and Transportation and Construction.

Eagleville’s seventh-grade students toured one lab each day and learned various careers are related to those available and in-demand locally. Led by Brandon Stewart, lab visits include insight on workplace conditions and appropriate personal safety equipment. Students also discussed pay rates for each job and career ladder opportunities.

“Those are all things to consider when you think about what a comfortable life would be,” Stewart told students.

Each of the district’s middle schools, including Rutherford County Virtual School, academic magnet and alternative schools are scheduled to host visits for the lab this spring.

Revealed to the public in October, the labs had an overall cost of $2.6 million and were funded by Innovative School Models grants from the state of Tennessee to boost career exploration.
