Jonas Marshall, a senior at Siegel High School, recently won the grand prize in the Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra’s 16th annual Composition Competition.
His original work, Solace Oriental, will be premiered at two of the NPO’s concerts in early March.
Jonas began studying piano at age 6 and eventually branched out to saxophone, voice and percussion. At Siegel High, he is involved in band, choir, jazz and musical theatre and uses those opportunities to refine his compositional voice.
After high school, he plans to study music education and composition, blending creativity, community and performance as his career blossoms. Jonas is honored to have the Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra premiere the piece.
The world premiere of Solace Oriental will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 1 at Madison Campus Church, 607 Larkin Springs Road in Madison, and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Pike, Nashville.
