Important bus route changes

 

As you may know, our bus service is provided using an owner-contractor system, which means we don’t own buses directly. Our School Board contracts with individual bus owners to cover bus routes.

We have been notified that one of those contractors has lost insurance coverage, which means those buses are not permitted to be used until the matter is resolved. The contractor’s buses affect approximately 40 buses.

 

At the end of this message, we have provided a list of the buses that are affected. These buses will not be permitted to operate through Tuesday. We are working with our other contractors to cover as many of the routes as possible. If you are impacted, you will receive additional information later this evening -- directly from our transportation department -- about your specific bus route.

 

If we are not able to provide a bus route for your child, all resulting absences or tardies will be excused. Even if your route is not affected, we anticipate this situation may cause other delays with buses. We know this is an incredible inconvenience for some families, and we truly apologize.

 

Our School Board has a special-called meeting Tuesday to address this issue with the contractor, and then we will notify parents if they are affected and the plan for bus coverage. Again, we apologize for this inconvenience and we thank you for working with us over the next couple of days.

 

The contractor model has worked for Rutherford County Schools, and we greatly appreciate all the contractors who are helping fulfill these bus routes for our families, students and schools.
