Susan Loveless has been named the new elementary math specialist for Rutherford County Schools, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Richard Zago has announced.

Loveless, who has been with the school district for the past 19 years, most recently was the assistant principal at John Colemon Elementary School in Smyrna.

“Susan had lots of prior experience as a leader,” Zago said, “She’s been an assistant principal and also working with academic coaches on a state level. She brought lots of experience to the table, especially as far as math and math curriculum for the pre-K through five grade level.”

A graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, Loveless comes from a family of educators. Her father was the longtime principal at Perry County (Tennessee) High School.

Prior to her role as assistant principal, Loveless worked as a response to intervention coach. Previously, she spent eights years in elementary education with a focus on math.

Zago emphasized he was impressed not only with Loveless’ experience, but also her leadership qualities.

The elementary math specialist is a new position for Rutherford County Schools, and Loveless has started developing the framework for K-5 instruction in an effort to create consistency throughout the district.

“We have such talented teachers,” Loveless said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to help create a shared vision for math in Rutherford County.”
