Tina Turner, who has served as interim principal since December, has been named principal of Stewarts Creek Elementary School, Director of Schools Don Odom announced.

Turner succeeds longtime principal Ginger Tucker, who passed away suddenly in December from a health complication.

“Mrs. Turner has an academic coaching background for instructional practices along with an experiential understanding of the positive community culture at Stewarts Creek,” Director Odom said. “The school has a history of high levels of academic performance, and Mrs. Turner will endeavor to maintain that expectation.”

Turner previously served as the school’s assistant principal.

“I feel very honored that Mr. Odom has the confidence in me because the Stewarts Creek campus, it’s a blessing to work there,” Turner said.

“My intention is to continue the tradition of excellence that we have cultivated since the school opened a little more than a decade ago. Ms. Tucker created such a positive culture in our building and our community. We are striving to maintain that culture, and based on feedback from our parents and teachers, I think we have been doing so.”

Turner added: “She always said, ‘If you’re doing what's right for children, you’re doing the right thing.’”
