Doug Bodary has been named the next assistant superintendent for budget and finance with Rutherford County Schools.

Director of Schools Bill Spurlock made the announcement today.

Bodary succeeds Jeff Sandvig, who has held the position for the past 21 years. Sandvig plans to retire in July and will be working with Bodary to ensure a smooth transition.

“Mr. Bodary has some big shoes to fill after succeeding Jeff Sandvig,” Director Spurlock said.

“Our school finances are complex and involve multiple funding sources and needs, and the experience Mr. Bodary brings to the table will allow us to not miss a beat and to continue what we’ve been doing, which is providing for our students while also being good stewards of taxpayer money.”

The budget and finance department oversees all financial aspects of the school district, including daily operations, capital improvements and food service.

Rutherford County Schools provides educational services for nearly 47,000 students and consists of more than 5,000 employees, making it the fourth largest school district in Tennessee.

Bodary, a resident of the Readyville community, is a certified public accountant. He previously served as a finance and budget consultant with the University of Tennessee’s County Technical Assistance Service and as a local government auditor for the Tennessee Comptroller.

“The time with being an auditor, auditing local governments like Rutherford County and several others around here, you understand the money and see the flow of the funds,” Bodary said. “You understand the functions of not only the schools department but also the rest of the county.”

He added: “I’m excited about this opportunity. I feel capable, and with the finance staff here, I know I am inheriting a really good team.”
