Eagleville senior John “Hunter” Hailey and Oakland senior Kyle Lennon both have been accepted to prestigious military service academies, the equivalent of Ivy League schools.

Hailey has been accepted to the U.S. Merchant Marine Service Academy in Kings Point, New York, and Lennon has been accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Hailey is one of only two from Tennessee accepted to the Marine academy, Eagleville Principal Bill Tollett said.

“He has been accept by the academy,” Hunter’s mother, Cindy, said. “I am very proud of him.”

At Oakland, Lennon serves as senior class president and will graduate as an International Baccalaureate diploma candidate in May, said LeAnn Hays, a media specialist at the school.

“OHS is very proud of Kyle,” Hays said. “He has worked tirelessly to achieve his goal. He is an outstanding student and classmate.”
