The Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities has released a heartwarming video featuring a pair of students — Camille and Charlotte — from Rocky Fork Elementary.

The project, which has been in the works since Fall 2019, is being used as an anecdotal success story of inclusive education.

It tells the story of Camille who wrote a letter to Rocky Fork principal, Scott Bolden, advocating for inclusive playground equipment so that she could more easily play with a disabled classmate Charlotte. Unbeknown to Camille, the additional equipment was already in the planning stages.

“I wished I could have a place to play with Charlotte and Charlotte could play with me,” wrote Camille. “She’s my best friend.”

The council plans to use the video “to foster discussions on how to create an inclusive employment atmosphere by creating an inclusive educational atmosphere.”
