New quarantine guidelines from state, CDC

December 2, 2020

We have an important update for parents regarding CDC guidelines for COVID-19 quarantines.

Based on the latest research, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have changed the guidelines for the length that someone must quarantine depending on certain circumstances.

The new guidelines state that those who have been exposed to a person with a positive case of COVID-19 only need to quarantine for 10 days, instead of 14, if they have no symptoms during the 10-day period. Furthermore, if a person is a contact, has no symptoms and receives a negative test result using a rapid test on day seven, they can end their quarantine after the seventh day.

There is one other change: If a person is a household contact and remains symptom free, they can end their quarantine after 20 days instead of the previous 24-day requirement.

Tennessee officials announced these changes today to school districts. Over the next few days, our schools will work with employees and parents to determine if anyone currently on quarantine qualifies to return early.

As always, we appreciate our employees, parents and students for all the sacrifices they are making as our community navigates the pandemic. Thanks again for all that you do.
