Maria Alvarado — fifth grader at Rocky Fork Elementary School — recently competed in the Global Amazing Shake competition presented by the Ron Clark Academy.

Alvarado placed 46th overall and was recognized in front of all competitors as a Top 50 Finalist with the opportunity to compete in an individual interview live on the Ron Clark Academy stage for a spot in the Top 20.

The Amazing Shake is a Ron Clark Academy invention which aims to teach students professional skills, introduce them to local community leaders and conduct themselves in a professional setting.

This year’s competition encompassed 357 finalists in grades 4-8 from all over the United States, including global competitors from as far away as Germany, Canada and Honduras.

“During the Amazing Shake, students learn and develop professional qualities — from the mechanics of a proper handshake to how to ‘work the room’ — so that they are able to present themselves exceptionally well for opportunities today and in the future,” according to theamazingshake.com.

Maria has stated that she fully intends to compete next year as a sixth grader at Rocky Fork Middle School.

Her goal is to return to Atlanta and earn her way into the Top 10 at the 2025 Global Amazing Shake competition.
