Oakland High School cosmetology students paid a special visit to Northside Healthcare in November.

Teacher Kelly Murphy Russell and five students provided, haircuts, styles, make-up application and manicures to 18 residents.

"It was the best teaching day I have ever experienced," Russell said. "The students not only honed their technical skills, they also learned how to work around disabilities, think outside of the box and give back to our community and elders all while exhibiting excellent communication skills.

"One of the clients was 101 years old and sharp as a tack. Conversing with her was a priceless lesson the girls and I would have never experienced otherwise," Russell added.
