REMINDER: RCS employees can get free flu shots, win prizes at Friday's Employee Wellness Fair

As a reminder, the annual Rutherford County Employee Wellness Fair will be held Friday, Oct. 14, from 3-7 p.m. at Lane Agri Park (315 John Rice Boulevard in Murfreesboro).

Rutherford County Schools graduation rate tops 95%

The composite graduation rate for Rutherford County high schools now tops 95%, according to a new report released this week by the Tennessee Department of Education.

The report shows the district's graduation rate is now 95.2%, which is up from 93.9% the previous year. CONTINUE READING

Combination of spirit, legacy and student-focused programs define Riverdale High School

Ask anyone in and around Murfreesboro what distinguishes Riverdale High School from other schools in Rutherford County and you’re likely to get one of two not-so-surprising replies.

Football.

Pride.

Some folks might refer to pride as school spirit or, more specifically, Riverdale spirit.

However, a surprising answer, especially for those who live on the other side of town, is that Riverdale is the only school in the district that has a fully operational, self-sufficient farm.

For many in the Murfreesboro community, Riverdale has been defined publicly by the success of its football program – the Warriors won state titles in 1994, 1997, 2001 and again 2004 – but, for its more than 2,100 students currently attending the school, Riverdale is more than a football school. CONTINUE READING

 

Retiring Riverdale Principal Nolan reflects on 36-year Warrior history

Tom Nolan still remembers the morning after a long night of preparing for his first English lecture.

It was 36-years-ago, in August 1980, and yet the images and sounds of his first day at Riverdale High School are as readily available at the forefront of his treasure trove of memories as if it had been two months ago.

Unlike a lot of football coaches at the time, Nolan said he was “smart enough to have an English degree,” and Riverdale’s first varsity football coach, Phil Watts, knew it. CONTINUE READING

The Rutherford County Board of Education has several meetings scheduled in October to cover topics such as the building program and the zoning for Rocky Fork Middle School. All meetings are open to the public and most of them are televised online and Comcast Channel 19.
