Thanks to grant funding, Blackman Elementary School will host "Stemtastic Fridays" for Kindergarteners from now through April.
Last week, 139 kindergartners participated and 14 K-readiness students along with nine parents, who volunteered their time working with seven educational assistants.
“The kids and parents alike were excited about the project,” said Kim Marble, RTI instructional coach. “Believe it or not the students couldn't stop talking about their new learning. Some shared that they couldn't wait to go home and tell their parents.”
Students learned about two tough terms: density and buoyancy.
By the end of their first lesson they were able to explain how the water bubbles from the carbonation acted as life jackets to help the raisins float.
“We are hoping to keep this momentum going,” Marble said, “and complete a stem activity each Friday.”
