Link 01: Evidence for Plate Tectonics
Item 1: Out of the three examples of evidence for plate tectonics at the top of the article, which one is the most convincing to you and why?
Item 2: Look at the four diagrams of planet Earth. Closely examine the diagram from 225 million years ago (MYA) and compare it to the diagram of showing Earth's current appearance. Look at where Australia was located 225 MYA, and see where it is located today. What climate changes most likely occurred in Australia as it moved to its current location, and why did they occur?
Item 3: Look at the diagram showing earthquake and volcanic activity on our planet. What patterns do you see concerning tectonic plates and the locations of earthquakes and volcanoes. What best explains these patterns?
Item 4: Read the section titled: Early Evidence: Fossils and Puzzle Pieces. Where did Wegener find matching fossil evidence that support his ideas, and what kind of fossils did he find?
Item 5: Read the section titled: The Effects of Plate Tectonics. What effects occur at convergent boundaries (subduction zones) and transform boundaries (transform zones)?
