The school district has now earned multiple "Gold Star Certified" ratings by the Safe Stars Initiative, a program offered by the Tennessee Department of Health and The Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Rutherford County Schools has received more Gold Stars than any other school district in Tennessee.

The Southeastern Young Adult Book Festival — commonly known as SE-YA — will be held at MTSU March 7-9. The first two days are student days and the third day, which is completely free, is for the general public. More than 40 young adult authors will be on hand.
