Holloway High School Principal Sumatra Drayton talks with Communications Coordinator James Evans and Communications Specialist Keith Ryan Cartwright about the application process for the school and what makes the school a unique fit for students looking for a smaller environment and more one-on-one attention.

everyone this is James Evans on here to listen to the latest episode of the on the classroom and the upcoming open house how are things going today your stats already back and and getting ready for this since everybody is excited they're in here everyday getting the classrooms ready technology ready you know is excited ready to go and you mention they're doing some sort of contest or something like that back to Walmart or Office Depot so they can reimburse them self when you say desk last teachers would constitute is a safe environment and a projector also we wanted to have an effect of technology is I want visitors and potential students to see that we have Technologies at the teachers are very comfortable with technology in the classroom Netflix dictate the teacher's classroom comfortable I want them to feel like this is their home and if you go through Holloway high you'll notice that every classroom is different it reflects the teacher that's what you're going to see in that classroom want to be here as much as I can there's a little bit of a misconception well let me put these how do you try to do a elevator every teacher we all try to have our elevator pitch black men those are your Comprehensive High School can't close to 2,000 members here same rules same requirement every student fill out an application essay graduate on time which is our main purpose is the help students graduate on time many of them have fallen behind behind because they just didn't do what they were supposed to you know that's what we specialize in so it's very similar to the face that they will find when they get to college do a full year of the semester they will have their end of course exams in December and then we start a new year in January just like four classes in a semester base instead of doing what credit score is not an alternative to isn't a lot of people saying that we might be the alternative schools in Redford and that's it alternative to blacksmith alternative to Riverdale or two or three listening to the alternative to coming here close to 7 so you need to teacher like this pic Celebrate Recovery the 90 minutes so much we don't have as many kids in the classroom construction more can Dawn attention from the teachers alternative if you are if you are feeling sad if you don't want to be noticed if you don't want people to pick up on the fact that you're struggling in math or struggling in with your read or riding lessons to be composted positive don't sell like personally how to print the food they Pride themselves on saying we're going to memorize and I'm going to be able to recognize and know the first and last name of all my students you know who they are I know beginning because I personally interview ever talk to every command and their families during the interview process because again it's just myself and mr. Campbell as my he is also the night school a lot of the time I'm the only administrator here so if there's any issues I am in a meeting Dillon's all day long as well as their parents that we not only the custodian the secretary everybody everyone in here because we don't we don't have a machine that call to tell the parents to move that stuff Victoria's in Tinley Park other High School only to cilities the two one program to talk about where is cited this year for county is going to do a two-to-one up to computer where's the only high school that is also going to be included in this the trial of this project or whatever the term is so we have right now Computer Center building laptop new laptop for students for every two students to have a laptop have access to a laptop upgraded Wi-Fi and everything in the building so no matter where you are turn into a farting all over the building cafeteria Jim everywhere and these are just special type of Newsmax what does representative in seven years as you know this district will use Office 365 which means the students have access to the listings of all these machines are very what they can do at school and I'm excited to be doing is really excited that you guys get to be the first High School shutting down was excited about being able to get their laptop so they'll be ready very similar when she here talking to someone like going to a small private school and I'm guessing that you guys must have a really large tuition at you charge me it's right on the public schools surprise I'm doing a freshman which isn't exactly but parents want their kids and it's smaller settings. They're concerned about 13 14 in to mm and we are getting quite a few funerals that are interested in opportunity amazing there is a feed and this is the thing you told me that before the kids eat kids I mean and they said tell me why I should consider their parents have to show up and they want to be here and when you have to lose that want to be someplace you eliminate a lot of other interferences such as altercations we don't have them there's lots of situations when you marry someone of your dating life of where you want them to want to do something it's really hard joke that I want you to want to do the dishes that's kind of our joking home to make someone want something so that's why I think it's kids school I think people need to hear more. Regardless whether you are gifted program or in you know things that we don't have but you know if it doesn't I mean we sometimes say perception is reality there's a perfect all the way people perceive but at the same time is a segment of the student body that is deaf person Belk you're the first girl aren't you call away after you changed his life you know just what you needed I just want you to know thank you first LP on eBay and there was no they couldn't make him come it's too hard and just tell him you have to do beyond the classroom podcast it's a really amazing what you're saying because Keith I got to hear this great speaker we were at a training this week he was a professor from Texas A&M in and. great people don't do extraordinary things that he said the basics first one is don't judge me you're not that bad of a day or year or everyone's gone through that he said he was educated but he said his dad told me don't judge people you don't call him on there when you need to fix something but you basic steps to that you just sent is just amazing to hear someone who didn't hear their philosophy someone truly senior in your heart I'll get it out eventually pregnant you know and when they come in of course you know they have to tell me if you're going to be mad but that doesn't mean you can't you just took alternate route that's all you learn the most we've all been there when I graduation this we always invite any an alumni speaker and it is someone that you know has made it to the Rutherford County teacher with a master's degree but she was 9 months pregnant the day she walked across the stage when she told her you know it was for the tune to beat you can you know you can do it I didn't hear tell us about you tells about that you said those kind of things open how it is next Thursday July 26th it'll start at 6 what do you call a shading almost where I will actually be interviewing through though if you're interested before you come or even this is one of those things that you don't know what to do.
