Welcome to Health Services

Parents/Guardians - please go over these 5 questions with your children before they leave for school each and every day:

  1. Have you been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the past 14 days?
  2. Are you experiencing a cough, shortness of breath, sore throat or stomach symptoms?
  3. Do you have now, or have you had in the past 48 hours (2 days) a fever of 100.4 or greater?
  4. Have you noticed a new loss of taste or smell?
  5. Have you had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours (1 day)?
If the answer is Yes to ANY of the questions, please keep your student at home. Contact the school nurse or your health care provider for guidance.

Health Requirements to start school in Rutherford County - please contact your school nurse or the Health Services Department at the Central Office (615-893-5812) with any questions

  1. Tennessee Department of Health Certificate of Immunization - parents should contact their child's health care provider or the Health Department to obtain a copy of the child's shot record. The child must be caught up on vaccines before he/she can start school, per Tennessee law.
  2. Proof of a physical done within the 12 months prior to starting school. This must be provided to the school nurse within 30 days of the child's first day of school.

The mission of the Health Services Department of Rutherford County Schools is to optimize student health and learning. Our vision is that all students will be healthy, safe and ready to learn. We work toward this goal by advocating for all students to have access to a school nurse and by developing and implementing safe, effective school health practices. It is widely accepted that healthy children learn better. By staying healthy and in the classroom, students can benefit from the high quality instruction delivered by RCS faculty.

Novel Coronavirus
The Tennessee Department of Health has established a website specifically for COVID-19 information: https://www.tn.gov/health/cedep/ncov.html
This site will be updated by the state as the situation evolves.

The best way to stay healthy during all of this is nothing new - just double down on healthy habits

    • Wash your hands often - for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water.
    • Stay home if you’re sick.
    • Cover your coughs & sneezes (and wash your hands again).
    • Clean surfaces that are touched frequently - door knobs, keyboards, etc.
    • Get plenty of rest.
    • Eat a balanced diet.
    • Exercise regularly.
