First Responders
Follow Health Services on Twitter @Health_RCS for important health tips and news.
Each school has a First Responder Team. This is a team of school staff members, led by the school nurse, trained in First Aid and CPR and the use of an AED. The team members are also trained annually by the school nurse in the administration of an epinephrine auto injector for an anaphylactic allergic reaction or asthma attack. The team is trained to respond to an emergency utilizing basic first aid and knowing when to call 911. Each school has a trauma box to use in case of an emergency, at least one AED (automated external defibrillator), and each team member has a “jump bag” of emergency medical supplies ready to use in case of a disaster.
